Social media has completely revolutionized the marketing sector. In fact, these are no longer platforms where users have personal profiles to connect with their friends and acquaintances. Or at least not only.

The corporate world now largely depends on web communication and social networks are becoming the calling card of any business and commercial activity, physical or digital.

As repeatedly stated, each social network has different Specific Database communication methods, but there is one element that unites all online platforms today, even more than in the past: the use of images.

However, each platform has specific rules also in terms of photos, videos and graphics concerning the dimensions and formats of multimedia content.

The social network par excellence, although today it is losing ground especially among younger users, is still Facebook. As for the size of the graphics on the platform created by Mark Zuckerberg, the images need to be differentiated according to their use.

To be more precise, the rules updated in August 2022 establish that: the profile picture on Facebook – both of a personal diary and of a company page – is 170×170 pixels.


This means that the image chosen as the profile picture will be square, but will appear circular for other users. If the profile image is quadrangular in shape, the cover image is instead rectangular and this obviously also changes the dimensions.

In this case it is a graphic that measures 820×312 pixels, at least in the desktop version. If, on the contrary, we analyze the mobile version, the perfect dimensions are 640×360 pixels.

When it comes to instead of a graphic or photo to share in a post , the optimal dimensions change again. In support of a written message it is in fact preferable to share an image whose dimensions are 1200×630 pixels .

Instagram is, more than any other, the social platform of images. The user itself and the ultimate purpose of Instagram revolve around the world of captivating graphics, intuitive shots and - more generally - photos shared by private or corporate profiles. The strategy of companies on Instagram is necessarily closely linked to the use of images. In this case, an important distinction must be made between content shared in the feed and content shared in stories. There are three possibilities for feed posts.
